Visiting Professor: Trends in Psychological Research in Malaysia

The Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), organized a Visiting Professor Lecture featuring two distinguished scholars from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The public lecture was held for graduate students of the Master of Psychology Program on September 18, 2025, at the Seminar Room, 7th Floor, Imam Barnadib Building, UNY, from 09.00 to 11.30 AM (WIB).

The event commenced with welcoming remarks from Dr. Sujarwo, M.Si., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Psychology UNY, who emphasized the importance of exposing postgraduate students to international research perspectives in psychology.

The first lecture was delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Hazalizah binti Hamzah, Head of the Department of Psychology and Counseling, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Malaysia. She discussed the phenomenon of job hopping, highlighting the psychological factors that drive employees to frequently change jobs, its organizational implications, and potential management strategies to reduce turnover rates.

The second session was presented by Dr. Muhammad Asyraf Bin Che Amat, K.B., P.A., Head of the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). His lecture focused on mental health, particularly on resilience, stress, and intervention strategies that can be applied to promote psychological well-being across different life contexts.

This Visiting Professor program provided valuable academic insights for postgraduate psychology students, offering an in-depth understanding of current psychological research trends in Malaysia. Furthermore, it strengthened academic collaboration between the Faculty of Psychology UNY and Malaysian partner universities, paving the way for future joint research and scholarly exchange.
