Building Positive Learning Environments: UNY Supports Kebumen School Leaders in Implementing School Well-Being

Kebumen, 2025 — The Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), carried out a Community Service Program (PkM) in the form of School Well-Being Training attended by 36 elementary school leaders and 4 school supervisors across Kebumen Regency. The program took place at SDN 1 Kutosari, Kebumen, in collaboration with the Kebumen Office of Education, Youth, and Sports (Dikpora) and was officially opened by the Head of Dikpora, Mr. Yanie, M.E.

The training aimed to enhance the capacity of school leaders in creating healthy, comfortable, and supportive learning environments for both students and teachers. The sessions covered key topics, including the concept of psychological well-being in schools, positive leadership, and strategies for integrating well-being into daily school management.

In addition to lectures, the program featured a Focus Group Discussion (FGD), providing school leaders with an opportunity to share real challenges faced in schools while exchanging practical solutions. This interactive session encouraged reflection, collaboration, and strengthened networking among school leaders across Kebumen Regency.

The program was chaired by Dr. Suwarjo, M.Si., with main speakers from the Faculty of Psychology UNY: A’yunin Akrimni Darojat, M.Psi., Psychologist; Ika Wahyu Pratiwi, M.A.; and Annisa Nur Harwiningtyas, M.Psi., Psychologist. The event was also supported by undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Faculty of Psychology UNY as committee members and facilitators.

In his remarks, the Head of Dikpora Kebumen, Mr. Yanie, M.E., expressed his appreciation for the program. “The School Well-Being training is an important step in improving the quality of primary education in Kebumen. As learning leaders, principals need to understand the importance of creating schools that are safe, healthy, and supportive of everyone’s growth,” he stated.

The event was well-received by the participants. The school leaders noted that the training not only broadened their knowledge but also provided valuable opportunities to share best practices that could be applied in their respective schools.

Through this program, the Faculty of Psychology UNY not only strengthened the leadership capacity of school leaders but also contributed directly to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. The school well-being approach represents a strategic effort to build learning environments that are healthy, inclusive, and sustainable through synergy between universities, local governments, and educational institutions in Kebumen.
