Yogyakarta – As part of the Visiting Professor Program, the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), organized an International Publication and Academic Writing session on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Meeting Room 1, Faculty of Education (FIP) UNY. The session featured Dr. Marieke de Vries from Utrecht University, the Netherlands, and was attended by faculty members of the Faculty of Psychology as an academic forum to discuss strategies for publishing in internationally reputable journals.
Unlike the public lecture held earlier in the day, this session was designed as an intensive discussion, enabling participants to exchange experiences and engage directly with Dr. de Vries on various aspects of scientific publishing, particularly in Scopus-indexed journals.
During the discussion, Dr. de Vries emphasized that successful publication depends not only on producing high-quality research but also on developing relevant research questions, constructing clear and compelling scientific arguments, and selecting journals that align with the scope and contribution of the study. She highlighted the importance of demonstrating novelty, theoretical and practical significance, and methodological rigor to enhance the likelihood of manuscript acceptance in internationally reputable journals.
The interactive discussion covered a wide range of topics, including manuscript preparation, journal selection strategies, the peer-review process, responding effectively to reviewers' comments, publication ethics, and opportunities for international research collaboration. Faculty members actively shared their publication experiences and discussed challenges encountered during the publication process while receiving constructive feedback on their ongoing research projects.
The session also underscored the importance of strengthening global academic networks to improve research quality and impact. International collaboration was identified as a key factor in expanding research perspectives, increasing scholarly productivity, and fostering joint publications with researchers from leading universities worldwide.
Through this International Publication and Academic Writing session, the Faculty of Psychology UNY reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening research excellence, promoting international collaboration, and enhancing the scientific publication capacity of its academic staff. The activity represents one of the Faculty's strategic initiatives to support institutional internationalization and improve its global academic competitiveness.
