Strengthening the Role of Mothers, Faculty of Psychology UNY and Fatayat NU DIY Hold Mental Health Family Training

Yogyakarta, July 26, 2025 – The Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (FP UNY), through its Clinical Psychology lecturer team, organized a community service program entitled “Empowering Mothers for Mentally Healthy Families” The event took place on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the office of Fatayat NU Regional Board (PW) Yogyakarta, Jl. MT. Haryono No. 42, Yogyakarta.
The training was attended by 42 women from Fatayat Nahdlatul Ulama representing five regencies in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Participants consisted of both housewives and single women with a strong concern for family mental health.
The event was opened by Rahmatika Kurnia Romadhani, S.Psi., M.Psi., Psychologist, as the organizing committee chair, followed by remarks from Maryam Fithriati S.S., M.Si., MSW, Chair of PW Fatayat NU DIY. In her speech, she expressed appreciation for the contribution of FP UNY in supporting women’s empowerment and strengthening family resilience.
The training covered three main topics delivered by FP UNY lecturers: Stress Management for Mothers, Assertive Communication with Husbands, and Understanding Child Development Stages and Parenting Strategies.
The sessions were conducted using interactive methods, including group discussions, simulations, and worksheets to sharpen participants’ understanding and skills. As part of the evaluation, participants completed both pre-tests and post-tests.
The training was met with great enthusiasm, reflected in the high number of questions and lively discussions. Several mothers even shared personal experiences about the dynamics within their families. Materials on communication and stress management were found to be highly relevant to daily life, reinforcing the role of mothers as both primary caregivers and educators within the family.
This activity involved four lecturers from the Faculty of Psychology UNY (Eva Rahman, S.Psi., M.Psi.; Annisa Nur Harwiningtyas, S.Psi., M.Psi., Psychologist; Rahmatika Kurnia Romadhani, S.Psi., M.Psi.; and Nadya Anjani Rismarini, M.Psi.) and was supported by four psychology students (Najma Hikmatul, Andita Mutiara, Aulia Zahra, and Bening Briliani) as organizing committee members.
Through this program, the Faculty of Psychology UNY reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in the area of community service, by making tangible contributions to the psychological well-being of families and society.
