Strengthening Workplace Happiness: FP UNY Provides Psychological Support for Indonesian Migrant Workers in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, July 10, 2025 – The Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (FP UNY), through its Industrial and Organizational Psychology (IOP) team, carried out a Community Service Program (PkM) titled “Enhancing Workplace Happiness for Indonesian Migrant Workers in Malaysia.” The initiative was held in collaboration with the Muhammadiyah Special Branch Leadership (PCIM) Malaysia as a concrete form of support for the psychological well-being of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) abroad, particularly in Malaysia.
The program took place on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the PCIM Learning Center in Kuala Lumpur, and was attended by Indonesian migrant workers residing and working in the area. In his remarks, a representative from PCIM Malaysia expressed appreciation for FP UNY’s attention to the psychosocial issues faced by Indonesian workers overseas.
Designed to be interactive and participatory, the program began with a core session on the concept of workplace happiness and its influencing factors, encouraging participants to recognize the importance of psychological balance for both work performance and personal life. The session was followed by engaging educational games that fostered a positive and collaborative group atmosphere.
Group discussions and interactive Q&A sessions provided a safe space for participants to share their personal experiences and challenges while working in Malaysia. Enthusiasm was evident from the active participation in discussions, activities, and reflective exercises. The program concluded with a reflection session where participants formulated personal commitments to enhance their own workplace happiness. To further encourage engagement, door prizes were also presented to active participants, adding a lively and cheerful spirit to the event.
This community service initiative was delivered by FP UNY’s IOP team consisting of Dr. Rosita Endang Kusmaryani, M.Si., Dyah Ayu Purwaniningtyas, M.A., Rilis Asterina, M.Psi., and R. Mahendra Wijaya Santoso, M.Psi. Through such programs, FP UNY continues to reaffirm its commitment to empowering communities across borders through the application of psychological science. With collaboration and shared purpose, this initiative is expected to inspire future programs that promote the well-being and workplace happiness of Indonesian migrant workers, while also strengthening psychosocial support networks for Indonesian communities abroad.
