DARMA WARAS: PPK Ormawa of the UNY Faculty of Psychology Student Executive Board Conducts an Elderly Integrated Health Service Program in Semagung Hamlet, Banjaroyo Village

Banjaroyo, July 22, 2026 – The Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa) Team of the Student Executive Board (BEM KM), Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), together with seven AGENPSY volunteers, continued the implementation of the Darma Waras Program by supporting the Elderly Integrated Health Service (Posyandu Lansia) on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in Semagung Hamlet, Banjaroyo Village, Kalibawang District, Kulon Progo Regency.
The activity is part of the team's ongoing community engagement initiative to strengthen community-based healthcare services while improving the quality of life of older adults. In collaboration with local health cadres and healthcare professionals, the program combines preventive healthcare, health education, physical activities, and psychosocial support to promote healthy and active ageing.
The program began with basic health examinations, including blood pressure measurement and general health screening conducted by local health cadres. These routine assessments aimed to monitor participants' health conditions and facilitate the early detection of common health risks among older adults.
Participants then joined an elderly exercise session led by the PPK Ormawa team. The activity encouraged physical fitness, flexibility, and active lifestyles while fostering enthusiasm and togetherness among elderly participants, university students, health cadres, and AGENPSY volunteers.
Following the exercise session, participants completed a pre-test to assess their initial understanding before participating in the educational activities. The program continued with an interactive fun activity facilitated by the PPK Ormawa team and AGENPSY volunteers. Beyond creating an enjoyable atmosphere, the session promoted social interaction, psychological stimulation, and stronger connections among participants.
The health education session was delivered by healthcare professionals from the local community health center, focusing on blood sugar and cholesterol management. Participants learned about risk factors, early prevention, healthy eating habits, appropriate physical activity, and practical daily strategies for maintaining healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels. The interactive discussion also allowed participants to consult directly with healthcare professionals regarding their health concerns.
After completing the program, participants returned home with new knowledge and practical recommendations for maintaining healthier lifestyles. The PPK Ormawa team hopes that the education provided will encourage older adults to become more proactive in maintaining both their physical and mental well-being.
Through the Darma Waras Program, the PPK Ormawa Team seeks to revitalize the role of the Elderly Integrated Health Service by transforming it into a comprehensive community empowerment program that combines routine health monitoring, health education, physical exercise, and meaningful social interaction. This holistic approach is expected to improve the overall quality of life and well-being of older adults.
As part of the program's sustainability, the team will also organize hydroponic gardening activities for elderly participants. These activities are designed to encourage active ageing, promote productivity, strengthen social engagement, and provide enjoyable opportunities for older adults to participate in community-based environmental initiatives.
The implementation of the Darma Waras Program also contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by promoting preventive healthcare and healthy ageing, SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by fostering inclusive and age-friendly communities, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaboration among the university, healthcare providers, community health cadres, volunteers, and local residents to generate sustainable community impact.
