One-Year Reflection of the Faculty of Psychology UNY: Strengthening Identity, Direction, and Collaboration

The Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) held a One-Year Reflection event as a strategic moment to review its institutional journey while reinforcing its future direction. The event took place on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the Moh. Amien Hall, Faculty of Education (FIP) UNY, from 09:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

The event was attended by the leadership of the Faculty of Education (FIP) UNY, including the Dean and Vice Deans, as well as representatives of students from the Faculty of Psychology UNY. The presence of various elements of the academic community reflected strong synergy and collective support in developing the Faculty of Psychology as a relatively new academic entity that continues to demonstrate significant progress.

The program began with opening remarks emphasizing the importance of reflection as part of a healthy academic culture. Reflection was not merely viewed as an evaluation of past achievements, but also as a critical effort to identify challenges, recognize opportunities, and formulate more strategic and sustainable development plans.

Over the course of its first year, the Faculty of Psychology UNY has achieved several foundational milestones that serve as a basis for its continued growth. These include strengthening academic governance, developing adaptive curricula aligned with contemporary needs, and enhancing activities within the three pillars of higher education (education, research, and community service). At the same time, the dynamics of being a developing faculty have presented challenges that require collective and innovative responses from all members of the academic community.

The reflection forum also served as a platform for exchanging perspectives and aspirations, both from faculty leadership and students. The involvement of student representatives played a crucial role in ensuring that the faculty’s development remains aligned with students’ needs and learning experiences as primary stakeholders in the educational process.

One of the most meaningful moments of the event was the ceremonial cutting of the traditional tumpeng, symbolizing gratitude for the faculty’s one-year journey. Beyond its ceremonial aspect, this tradition represents hopes for continued growth, prosperity, and greater achievements in the years ahead.

More than a commemorative event, this reflection served as a platform for consolidating shared values and commitments. The Faculty of Psychology UNY reaffirmed its determination to grow into an excellent, adaptive, and competitive institution at both national and international levels. Strengthening collaboration, both internally and externally, was also highlighted as a key factor in accelerating institutional development.

Through this one-year reflection, it is hoped that all members of the academic community will further strengthen their sense of belonging and actively contribute to realizing the broader vision of the Faculty of Psychology UNY as a center of psychological education and development with meaningful impact on society.
