FP UNY and MAN 1 Yogyakarta Explore Collaboration in Psychological Services and Student Development Initiatives

Yogyakarta – The Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (FP UNY), hosted an audience meeting with Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Yogyakarta on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the Dean’s Meeting Room of FP UNY. This meeting marked an initial step in exploring strategic collaboration between the two institutions, particularly in strengthening psychological services and student development.
The session began with a brief presentation on the profile and development of the Faculty of Psychology UNY delivered by the Dean.
During the discussion, MAN 1 Yogyakarta highlighted several strategic needs, including the optimization of human resources through psychological approaches tailored to the development of students, teachers, and staff. The school is also developing international classes as well as excellence programs focused on research and competitions, which require professional support in strengthening students’ mental readiness.
MAN 1 Yogyakarta also emphasized the importance of mental health services in the school environment, including the need for psychological assistance, training on Psychological First Aid for teachers and students, and capacity building for peer counselors.
In response, the Faculty of Psychology UNY expressed its strong support for the proposed collaboration. FP UNY conveyed that it is currently in the process of developing a psychological service unit accessible to the wider community, despite existing limitations in facilities and infrastructure. In the future, this service is expected to support partner institutions, including MAN 1 Yogyakarta.
FP UNY also indicated its readiness to provide training on Psychological First Aid for teachers and students, as well as training for peer counselors. Additionally, the importance of psychological assessment as a preventive measure was highlighted, particularly for students entering non-regular or international classes, to assess their mental readiness and resilience.
Beyond service provision, both parties also explored opportunities for collaboration in community service and research activities.
This meeting is expected to serve as a foundation for sustainable collaboration that brings mutual benefits, particularly in strengthening psychology-based educational services and institutional capacity development.
