Visiting Professor: Strengthening the Perspective of Educational Psychology at UPSI Malaysia

Tanjong Malim, Perak – The Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding global academic networks through the Visiting Professor Outbound program at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Malaysia. The inaugural event of this series materialized in an engaging face-to-face lecture held on Thursday, April 2, 2026. Located in room B08-2-BK34 within UPSI's Faculty of Human Development, this session served as an intellectual bridge connecting Indonesian and Malaysian students in a dynamic and inclusive academic setting.
The lecture, which commenced promptly at 08:30 local time, provided a platform for Dr. Siti Rohmah Nurhayati, M.Si., Psychologist, a senior academic from UNY, to share her expertise in the KSE3013 Educational Psychology course. Beyond the mere transfer of knowledge, the presence of Dr. Siti Rohmah, warmly accompanied by Datin Roslinda binti Alias from UPSI, fostered a collaborative synergy. The attendees included regular UPSI students as well as UNY students currently participating in the international mobility program in Malaysia. The UNY students played a dual role, actively contributing as cultural ambassadors and technical supporters, assisting with coordination and guiding participants to the lecture hall, thereby ensuring the smooth execution of the session.
In terms of substantive content, Dr. Siti Rohmah delivered a comprehensive lecture that transcended classical definitions of educational psychology. She eloquently articulated the integration of contemporary psychological concepts with the practical realities of learning in a globalized era. The in-depth discussion touched upon the nuanced characteristics of 21st-century learners, the intricate cognitive and affective mechanisms underpinning the learning process, and the formulation of effective instructional strategies tailored to the diverse cultural contexts of Indonesia and Malaysia. The classroom atmosphere transformed into a vibrant bilateral forum as students from both nations posed critical questions regarding the application of Self-Determination Theory and Growth Mindset within Southeast Asian education systems.
This activity transcends ceremonial protocol, representing a tangible implementation of UNY's internationalization strategy. The core objective is to fortify the exchange of knowledge and pedagogical best practices between these two prominent higher education institutions in the ASEAN region. Through this direct interaction, both faculty members and students gain invaluable cross-border perspectives, enriching their understanding of how psychological science can profoundly shape the development of adaptive and globally competent future educators.
